Many people out there are very worried about COVID-19, and rightfully so. This pandemic-causing virus is stealthy and can go undetected in people while it spreads. If you want to keep yourself and your loved ones safe, one of the best things that you can do right now is self-isolate (also known as social distancing) and also keep your home as clean as possible to prevent transmission. Luckily, this virus, while good at spreading itself, does not hold up well to cleaners that most people have at home. Here are a few great ways to keep yourself safe through cleaning.
First, wash your hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds. Handwashing is incredibly effective because soap doesn’t try to kill the virus, but instead it physically removes the virus from your hands and lets it go down the drain during rinsing. It cannot replicate outside the human body, making simple soap and water your best solution.
Second, judicially use household cleaners that work against proteins in the virus. While vinegar and baking soda are common cleaners, they aren’t going to work to kill the COVID-19 virus. You are better off sticking to a bleach solution, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. The surface should be scrubbed, saturated and left to dry on its own. Start early and clean often with these products in areas that are touched most often such as doorknobs, light switches, faucets, sink basins, refrigerator handles, etc.
Finally, beware all those products that are trying to profit from the epidemic. Self-isolation, keeping a clean home, and staying at least 6 feet away from other people when you need to go out is your best bet.
